He looked up into the stars twinkling above him, they seemed to be at the tip of his nose and he thought that he could almost reach them if only he could extend his arm a little farther. He looked around him and watched large, fluffy snowflakes spiral around him He felt a droplet of water run down his face.Sketch in Words 5 5 2009
Winter was her favorite time of the year. The snow, the cold, the ice, sitting at home curled up in a blanket, wandering outside curled up in the sn

Sketch in Words 2 27 2009The room was dark. There were many windows, but the sun was setting and the few light rays that managed to penetrate the glass seemed to be incapable of illumination. They grew hesitant as they approached, almost as if they were afraid of what they might expose, as if afraid of some ugly reality they might uncover. Upon reaching the black interior, the light rays weakened and in a sudden fit of disintegration they dissolved, leaving nothing but a few feeble particles to linger, diffused in the air. Yet there was something in the center of the room that attracted the light, and the particles that survived the dark's onslaught condensed togetheSketch in Words 2 27 2009

Sketch in Words 1 29 2009The little bird leaped out into the wind. She felt the cool, morning air swarm around her, tickling her with its whispers and sighs. Where was she going? She didn't know, it didn't matter. All she saw was the shimmer of light far out on the horizon, which was to her more than a sunrise, for in that dawn she saw the future and the promise that it contained. How wonderful, she thought, to be able to soar across the open sky, unimpeded and unobstructed, directly to one's destination - to one's dreams. All you have to do, she thought, was to see the light and to fly towards it. One day, she thought, she would reach it, and flying high above thatSketch in Words 1 29 2009

Spirit. It soon grows to be more than a whisper It was in those lullabies you heard at night With all their unkept, broken promises. They said "Hush-a-bye, don't you cry - you'll have all those pretty horses. But when you wake, you will find" - Your dreams ripped and
| My name is Brandon Killen. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Utah studying comparative literature. As you can tell by my chosen major, I love to read. My favorite author, whose work and philosophy continue to be a major influence in my life, is Ayn Rand. I am also extremely passionate about music. I have played the piano for eleven years, euphonium for eight, and the trumpet for four. I listen to music from every era. My favorite composers are mostly from the Romantic era: Chopin, Rachmaninov, and MacDowell. I do listen to a lot of contemporary musicians, some consistent favorites are The Fray, Marie Digby, and (my favorite contemporary artist) Mika. I digest a lot of soundtrack music as well, my two favorite soundtrack albums are Joe Hisaishi’s music from Spirited Away and Mark Mancina’s soundtrack to August Rush. Literature and music—everything else is rather minor in comparison. I love Disney films—Dumbo is my favorite. I love movies and I particularly enjoy reading/analyzing their screenplays—random favorites: Love Me If You Dare (French title: Jeux d’enfants), V for Vendetta, The Lion King, and (a recent one) The Reader. I am addicted to the television series Criminal Minds—I can’t wait to get my hands on the DVD’s for the 4th season. And I do play the occasional computer game (real-time strategy or turn-based strategy only).
